Children’s Defense Funds (CDF) Freedom Schools® program offers a unique opportunity for participants called scholars (the students) and servant leader interns (the teachers) to celebrate diversity and make meaningful contributions to social change. Participants engage in CDF’s culturally responsive reading curriculum in the mornings, which focuses on Black history and social action. The goal of CDF’s integrated curriculum is to ensure every child a Healthy Start, a Head Start, a Fair Start, a Safe Start and a Moral Start in life and successful passage to adulthood with the help of caring families and communities. Scholars will be able to choose from diverse activities in afternoons, with field trips on Fridays to local parks and University programs. NFFS is partnering with FAMU, FSU, as well as Downtown Community Church and others in the community, to provide quality afternoon activities.
